Energy Coordinating Agency: HVAC Training Program
The 600-hour 22-week HVAC Installer + Maintenance Program will prepare the next generation of skilled and credentialed HVAC workers. The curriculum was developed by Johnson Control Institute (JCI) for ECA, alongside a state-of-the-art lab for practical training, installed by JCI at the ECA Knight Job Training Center. Johnson Controls is the world’s largest manufacturer of residential and commercial HVAC equipment and a leader in smart energy solutions in buildings. This program uses a combination of classroom theory and discussion, lab demonstration, hands-on-exercises, and fieldwork to prepare students for their future careers. Our curriculum is tailored to support adult career seekers, including workers who are single parents, justice-impacted, or lack a high school diploma, to gain measurable skills and attain nationally recognized credentials. Trainees who successfully complete the HVAC Installer + Maintenance Program will receive national, portable, stackable credentials preparing them to directly enter the workforce.
Credentials include:
- OSHA 10 – Occupational Safety and Health Administration
- EPA Renovation Repair and Painting (RRP) Lead Safety Procedures – The Environmental Protection Agency’s RRP training includes lead safety practices at work.
- EPA 608 Refrigerant Recovery Certification
- NCCER Core Certification (i.e., the National Center for Construction Education and Research’s core skills training)
- HVAC Maintenance 225
- LM-17 Fundamentals of HVAC and Controls Certification
- ESCO Basic Electricity Certification
